Workspaces

Workspaces allow the user to analyze subsets of the data that make up a project. For example, a project could contain several workspaces, each analyzing the data at a different taxonomic level (e.g., genus-level OTUs in one workspace, phylum-level OTUs in another workspace). Alternatively, user-defined metadata could be used to select specific libraries for inclusion in a workspace. Similar to figures, workspaces are saved within the larger project, so they stay linked to the data from which they were created and do not create additional computer files.

For a description of how to select libraries, see Select Data.

Library data may be combined into groups on the basis of user-defined filters, which are local to the workspace in which they are created. To group libraries, see Select Data.

Note: Libraries permanently deleted from any workspace via the Edit → Project Settings → Remove Libraries command are also deleted from the larger project! In general, it is better to create filters that selectively populate workspaces with the libraries desired rather than permanently removing them.
